"Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing."

I was born in 1957 (London), a first child.  Mum was a secretary, Dad worked on the production line at Ford's.  They lived with my Nan (mum's mum), for 4 years until they could afford the deposit on their own house. I left school at 15 (no exams), but started training as a Registered Nurse (in mental health), at 18.  Qualified at 21, and got married the same year.  He was a student nurse too.  Three kids and many years later, we're still together.

At 22, I did some "School" subjects at evening class ("A" levels, sociology & English) - and at 23 started a Sociology degree at a nearby polytechnic (in between "Agency" nursing at weekends, and in the holidays).  Had my first baby in 1983, and didn't finish my studies.  Had another baby in 1985 - and then went back to full time work (nursing), in 1986.  Emigrated to Australia with the hubby and kids in 1989, and I've worked in mental health nursing (full time, part time & casual), ever since - in between having another baby in 1992.

We live on 2 and a half acres, an hour south of Brisbane (Queensland), and an hour inland from the Gold Coast.  I've got a huge interest in the environment, including permaculture - and I believe we have a very short window of time to rescue the future.

I've never been a member of any political party or formal organisation, though I did once apply to join the Australian Labour Party.  They sent back my money without explanation, though I believe it was because a friend and myself had made a large number of high profile media waves about seatbelts on school buses, resulting in a 6 month public inquiry.  We must have put some powerful state government (ALP), noses out of joint more than we knew.  I treat it as a backhanded compliment.

I read a lot (non-fiction), and here are some of my influences:-

Richard Heinberg

Jared Diamond
